Coal Scuttle
This 1862 English coal scuttle was once used for holding a supply of coal to use in fireplaces. A similar container may have been used in this house.

Houses in Over-the-Rhine were built with multiple fireplaces -- often one per room -- that were used to create fires for cooking and heat for cold Ohio winters.

We have repurposed this as a "Candy Scuttle". Please help yourselves to the treats, and feel free to use the postcards to write to your friends and family!
